How to save gas? A very good question that has numerous (and
obvious) answers. Not only it is possible for a driver to
significantly reduce gas expenditures, it is also possible to
exploit every drop of precious gasoline—so long as one is armed
with the knowledge of how to do so. For the everyday car user,
being wise and frugal when it comes to gasoline consumption is a
responsibility that would not only save cash, but also help
conserve energy. And so, here are some tips on how to save on
gasoline.
One tip is to not to use the pedals as a foot rest. Most drivers
rest their foot on the floor board pedals while driving, and
this causes a mechanical “drag” on components. Because of that,
drivers get robbed of little amounts of gasoline and not know
it. Another tip is to plan trips beforehand: take roads that are
shorter and straighter, and avoid those that are rough and
dirty. Dirt and gravel cause more effort for a car to move on,
and this costs drivers of up to 30% of their gas mileage.
Another niftier trick is to drive at the average speed with the
stoplight in mind. Traveling at a steady speed boosts a driver’s
chances of getting a green light all the way, since stoplights
are timed for a driver’s motoring advantage. And when it comes
to parking, avoid using reverse gear maneuvers because it takes
more time and consumes more gas compared with parking and
leaving through forward gear maneuvers.
And of course, one of the most basic tips is constant vehicle
maintenance and parts replacements. This not only saves gas, but
also maintains vehicle performance. Inspecting the suspension
and chassis parts for misalignments or checking fuel injection
system components ensure engine efficiency less drag for the
vehicle. Also, removing excess weight from a vehicle (such as
extra tires and other parts that cause unnecessary load) could
add to a car’s horsepower and thus improve
fuel economy and engine performance.
However small, obvious, and mundane they may be, doing these
“little” things would not only answer the question on how to
save gas, but it also answer and prevent troubles on car
performance and maintenance. With this, drivers can fully enjoy
every drop of gasoline pumped into the vehicle. And so, keep the
little things in mind, and save up on gas.
